The careers programme at The Everitt Academy utilises links with local colleges and other providers, ensuring that students are given first-hand experience of Post-16 options when they are in KS4. Students have the opportunity to study at both East Coast and St Edmunds College, working towards City and Guilds qualifications in mixed trade and motor mechanics. Where possible, students are provided with bespoke work experience placements with their own interests at heart. In school, all KS4 students have a careers session allocated once per week, and lower down the school students have a chance to study careers in PSHE lessons. Visits to local colleges take place throughout the year, giving students an inside look at post-16 options. Due to the vulnerable nature of the students on roll and the significant chance of NEET, the school works with the Early Help Team to ensure student, family and school are all working together when it comes to applications and next steps.
Students themselves provide feedback around the careers and college links, which goes some way to measuring impact. Behaviour is also analysed, to see if an upturn can be linked to engagement with careers and futures. Ultimately, success comes down to students being in education or employment Post-16.
Mr. Bradley has taken our KS$ groups (Gainsborough and Crisp) to East Coast College and Life Skills this term. Students are starting to think about what they would like to study next year.
